A different flamenco tradition to Andalusia
Flamenco is most associated with Andalusia — Seville's tablaos and Granada's cave zambras — but Madrid has run its own tablao scene for decades, drawing touring and resident artists to small rooms in the city centre rather than a purpose-built theatre or tourist bus stop.
The cuadro, up close
A tablao show is built around the cuadro flamenco: a guitarist (el toque), a singer (el cante) and one or more dancers (el baile), usually performing close to the front row. It's a different, more intimate register than a large-cast touring production.
